Course Structure
The two year program starts with the pre-term
and orientation courses followed by six trimesters of 3 months each.
The first three trimesters cover the introductory, analytical and
core courses, laying the foundation for the advanced elective
courses in later terms. To specialize in one area, a student has to
take a minimum of six electives from that area. Students also have
to choose 3 additional electives.

Preparatory Learning
Students come to the SRMS IBS
from diverse educational backgrounds and industries. Some have been
away from academics for a few years. To enable a smooth transition
back to academics and learning, the SRMS IBS offers a week-long
preparatory course to help students get acquainted with the new
surroundings, new community, a new way of life and, most
importantly, the course and teaching style at SRMS IBS.
Students will be exposed to the basics of:
1. Analytical Approach to Uncertainty (Business Mathematics)
2. Operating Strategies for the Manager
3. Team Building
Core & Elective
Courses
Leadership Development Program (LDP) The core courses taught in the
first four terms cover the basics of
Finance, Strategy, Operations, Human Resources and General
Management. We offer a specialisation in :
Leadership
Development Program (LDP)
On joining, all the students go through the LDP, which is a unique
program based on 360-degree feedback and introspection. It
inculcates a spirit of team play and leadership through a series of
lectures, discussions, workshops and group sessions. Essential
skills for leadership like effective listening and
communication, presentation, team building, assertiveness and problem
solving are developed. Students learn the technical skills,
emotional intelligence
and cognitive abilities required of a leader.
The LDP focuses on individual growth through a three-fold approach
of self-reflection, peer evaluation and facilitator
intervention. Leadership development is most effective when change
is backed by assessment and support. And change itself is to come
out of your comfort zone and learn from new experiences.
The program has been carefully designed with these goals in mind.
Its four main features are:
-
A 360-degree assessment
-
An opportunity to review 360-degree
feedback with a designated facilitator, and develop individual
plans for leadership development
-
A series of experiential skill-building
workshops in small groups on different themes: Working in Teams;
Business Presentations; Interpersonal Skills; Influencing
Skills; and Business Problem Solving
-
Follow-up 360-degree review after about
six months – based on feedback from fellow students. All these
are facilitator intensive to maximise feedback and support.
The Summer
Training Program (STP)
The Summer Training Program allows student
teams to work with the industry on real-world business issues,
giving them the chance to apply their learning outside the classroom
setting and gain a new perspective on business and more.
STP projects enable students to integrate the concepts they learned
in the core terms and to apply the skills of consulting in
developing industry specific expertise. Individuals work with
companies on strategic, marketing, finance and general management
issues across 8 weeks. With guidance from a faculty advisor,
students create a unique recommendation to fulfill the
organizational need. Many companies use this program as their
pre-recruitment training as well.
